The call went out as it does when a good swell is up: Morro Bay Mayor Jamie Irons proposed a Surfboard Art exhibition and the Morro Bay Surfboard Art Festival (MBSAF) was born!
Now in its fourth year, the MBSAF has quickly become a community’s passion. Local surfers donate their used surfboards to over 20 central coast artists, as well as talented local elementary, middle school and high school students, all of whom create these beautiful works of art.
The local business community embraces this festival by exhibiting the surfboard art at their businesses for shoppers, diners, residents and tourists to admire.
All surfboard art work is available for sale while exhibited and at the Surf Art Sale on December 2nd. Visit the Event page for more information on how to experience these works of art.
Sale proceeds help support Morro Bay in Bloom.
Morro Bay in Bloom produces the Surfboard Art Festival as a fundraising cultural event. Morro Bay in Bloom volunteers seek to improve the quality of life for residents and to enhance visitors’ experience of Morro Bay through attractive and water-wise floral displays, well-maintained landscaped areas, a robust urban forestry program, active stewardship of our environment, preservation of Morro Bay’s historical and cultural heritage, and clean, welcoming public spaces that include public art. As a competing participant in the America in Bloom program, Morro Bay in Bloom volunteers conduct active projects in all six of these areas.
